Hot painting and cold painting are relatively ancient wax painting techniques in Europe, which are distinguished by the use of wax media.
The wax suitable for painting is mainly beeswax. The beeswax sold in the store is milky white in the shape of cake or block, soft and delicate, and can be melted in turpentine, premium gasoline and water when heated to 60 ℃. Wax painting is suitable for painting on wood boards and other hard supporting materials, but also can be attached to the canvas. The canvas base is generally made of glue, or it can not be done, but it cannot be painted on an oil base.

(1) Hot painting.
Select 8 parts of beeswax, cut into small pieces, add 1 part of Kalnuba wax (imported wax, egg-colored fragments, smooth and hard, can not be used) into a metal container and heat it to dissolve. Then take the same amount of (1:2) Damar resin varnish and put it in a number of small metal boxes, and then stir each color powder in a box of hot wax solution to make different colors of waxy color paste.
When painting, arrange the color plaster box on the heatable smooth metal plate to keep the wax color dissolving, then you can use the brush to dip in the color solution to paint, and can adjust the color on the metal plate, and dilute it with turpentine if necessary. Wax color applied to the screen will quickly solidify, can be covered by multiple layers, can also be modified and retouched with a scraper while it is hot. Modern painters often use auxiliary tools such as hot hair dryers, special electric iron, heatable scrapers and so on. As shown in the picture. The finished wax painting is matte and can be polished with flannelette on the screen.
2) Cold painting method.
The cold painting method is divided into two media: emulsified wax and saponified wax.
Emulsified wax: also known as wax cream, the standard preparation method is: take gram beeswax, put it into 0 ml boiling water to dissolve, add ~ g ammonium carbonate (which can be dissolved in a little warm water first), keep stirring after boiling and bubbling, until the bubbles disappear, tofu pudding-shaped wax cream can be made. Use 4 parts of wax cream + 1 part of latex (or animal glue, casein glue, etc.) to mix color powder when painting.
Saponification wax: 1 part of beeswax and 3 parts of turpentine are placed in a jar, sealed, heated with water to dissolve beeswax in turpentine, and then mixed with (1:2) Dama varnish to blend the pigment powder.
Cold painting is more suitable for canvas and paper than hot painting, but cold wax painting is better to be polished on plaster boards.
